
Eating for cold season
Coughing, sneezing, sore throat, stuffy nose....tis the season for all of those symptoms. Here are few nutrients to keep in your diet to help aid in keeping colds at bay or minimizing them.
Hydration - stay hydrated especially during this cold season.
Selenium - found in mushrooms, oatmeal and crab - shown to boost immunity to fight infections
Allicin - found in garlic - acts as a natural antibiotic to kill germs
Vitamin C - found in sweet peppers, citris fruits, kiwi - might help shorten the duration of a cold
Zinc - found in wheat bran, amaranth leaves, crab - boost immunity to prevent infection
Any food high in nutrients like, vitamins A, B, C, and E and in potassium, zinc, magnesium and anti-oxidants can only help. Tomatos, red peppers, spinach, squash and blueberries to name a few...Eat the rainbow in fruits and veg.
Avoid excess milk products when you are stuffed up; milk protein tends to thicken mucous and make it harder to drain. All the more reason to drink lots of water.
