Body Pump Is Here At the CAC
BODY PUMP is now here @ CAC! Body Pump made its debut on Wednesday, November 3rd with two maxed-out classes. The music was great, the class was tough, our five-instructor team was inspiring and the workout was amazing! Since the initial launch, Body Pump is now on our schedule with 8 weekly classes.
What exactly is Body Pump? Let me give you a little background first. The first Body Pump class was offered in a gym in Auckland, New Zealand in 1991. The initial concept was to create an exercise class that would appeal to men. It worked. It quickly became so popular that it spread to other gyms. Even today, the class has wide appeal to both men and women. The basic idea behind Body Pump is to take the best weight room exercises and teach it in a class setting. Safety and proper form are explained and demonstrated by the instructor. The best part is that participants no longer have to deal with the experience of going to the gym and getting confused by all the machines and pulleys in the weight room (as well as dealing with the "meat-heads").
A Body Pump class will start with a warm up (as all exercise routines should) and then proceed to other exercises over the next hour which are designed to strengthen all the major muscle groups in the body. This type of workout is known as a total body workout. Study after study show that total body workouts are the best type of workout for decreasing body fat. As an instructor, I’ve witnessed participants lose anywhere from 5-15 pounds the first month they participated in Body Pump. Usually they were new gym members who were out of shape but consistently came to 3 Body Pump classes a week (they are no longer out of shape).
As a personal trainer, I appreciate the safety modifications that have been added to each exercise. I would have no problem encouraging any of my friends or family to take Body Pump even if I didn’t know who the instructor was, because the class format is clearly structured. The strict adherence to structure that all Pump instructors practice make it possible to get the same quality of class no matter where the class is offered. This means that participants can take a Body Pump class anywhere in the world and get the same great results. I’ve even heard of participants looking up a local Body Pump class to take while on vacation (Body Pumpers tend to be a little fanatic).
To summarize, Body Pump is meant for the complete beginner who knows nothing about exercise, and the experienced fitness buff who has taken hundreds of exercise classes. Since the average class burns 300-500 calories, you will see results. So… what are you waiting for? See you at the next Body Pump class!
